Stained Concrete

Concrete Stain is among the many choices available to decoratively color your concrete and comes in a wide variety of colors. Each project may be customized to make it unique. Several colors may be used in an alternating pattern or layered over each other to create a mottled look. Decorative borders or saw cut patterns may also be incorporated into the design.

There are two basic types of concrete stains: reactive acid stains and water-based stains:

Acid Stains work by chemically reacting with the lime in the concrete as it penetrates. This process produces natural color variations with different hues and color intensity, providing a translucent finish that is a part of the concrete. Each concrete slab is unique and the color produced will depend on the properties and character of the particular concrete.

Water-based Stains work by penetrating the natural pores of the concrete depositing pigment to creating color that is embedded in the concrete. This process can produce a translucent or opaque finish depending upon the product selected and is typically available in wider color selection. Water -based stains are low VOC too!

**The above concrete stains are intended to enhance the natural character and beauty of the concrete and are not intended to "cover up" variations or blemishes in the concrete.

A third type of concrete stain, an Opaque Solid Color stain is also available, which has enhanced "cover up" properties, much like paints and coatings.

Upon completion of the concrete stain a premium sealer is applied to lock in the color and protect the surface. Once the stained concrete is sealed you have an extremely durable and virtually maintenance free surface. Sealed concrete floors do not trap dust, dirt or allergens like other flooring.
